Dani Colvin

Dani Colvin is an author, illustrator and former journalist who, for 16 years, wrote a column reviewing children’s literature for The Sunday Tasmanian.

Dani’s debut picture book will be published by Walker Books Australia in 2023, and is a powerful and uplifting story that will foster resilience, self-belief and courage.

She is a passionate believer in the magic of reading and the power of books to transform children’s lives, so it seemed a natural transition to become a teacher aide and run a primary school library.  In these roles, she worked with a startling number of children grappling with daily difficulties and challenges including bullying, grief, disability, financial hardship, and family struggles.

For the past 13 years, she has worked in the not-for profit sector. This includes a decade in fundraising and community engagement at a national organisation that helps children recover from the trauma of abuse, neglect and family violence. Here, she was privileged to share the stories of many children who had never had anyone in their lives who made them feel believed and believed in.

It is these experiences, as well as her own parenthood, that compelled Dani to create a book in which children could find hope and strength and courage and comfort, no matter what private battles they were facing.
