Julie Janson to appear as guest writer at George Town Literary Festival, Malaysia

Graham Seal’s next history book acquired by Yale University Press

A great start to 2019 with news that Yale University Press has acquired world rights to award-winning writer Graham Seal’s next history book. CondemnedThe transported criminals who built Britain’s Empire will be published in 2020 and is a broad-scale study of how Britain banished its poor, its wrongdoers and its rebels to build and power an empire in America, Africa, India, South Asia and Australia. While previous books on this topic have been narrow in scope or academic in nature, Condemned will be one of the first to embrace the full global story of transportation.

Julie Janson’s novel Benevolence acquired by Magabala Books

We are thrilled that Julie Janson’s novel Benevolence will be published by Magabala Books  in 2020. Set between 1810 and 1850, and drawing on the author’s Darug Nation background, the novel is a powerful account of the struggle to survive both during and beyond institutionalisation and is one of the first fictionalised accounts of the Parramatta Native Institution (where the first of the Stolen Generations were placed).

Ian Shaw’s seventh book acquired by Hachette Australia

On the back of his successful true crime book, Murder at Dusk, Hachette Australia has announced that they will be publishing Ian W Shaw’s next book in mid-2019. This will be Ian’s seventh book (his third with the wonderful team at Hachette).The book tells the remarkable story of ‘Operation Babylift’ and the Australian women who fought hostility, entrenched racism, sexism and bureaucratic atrophy as they attempted to evacuate hundreds of orphans from South Vietnam in the dying days of the Vietnam War.

No Country for Young Men acquired by MidnightSun Publishing

We are so pleased to share the news that MidnightSun Publishing has acquired Dominic Carew’s brilliantly original and quirky short story collection, No Country for Young Men. Dominic has won or been shortlisted for many major short story awards, including the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. This is his first published collection, to be released in early 2020.
