Katie Newton has worked as a journalist and editor for over 15 years for media outlets such as Stuff, Sunday Magazine, The New Zealand Herald and Television NZ, writing everything from long-form features to opinion pieces and celebrity profiles.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism. In 2020 Katie was the editor of Your Home and Garden magazine when Bauer Media was shut down, taking her full-time job with it. This sparked a desire to go freelance and try her hand at a long-held dream: Writing fiction.
In 2022, Katie enrolled in the Masters of Creative Writing at Auckland University and was awarded the Copyright Licensing NZ scholarship for best portfolio.
Katie’s debut novel, People Will Get Hurt By This, will be published by Summit Books/Simon & Schuster in 2027.
