
Sherryl Clark is the author of more than 70 published children’s and YA books, including novels, chapter books, picture books and verse novels. She has won the Prime Minister’s Award for Children’s Literature in 2022 for Mina and the Whole Wide World, and the NSW Premier’s Award for Children’s Books in 2005 for Farm Kid, and 14 of her books have been named CBCA Notables. Her most recent children’s book is The Only Branch on the Family Tree, released by UQP in 2025, which received a Storylines Notable Book Award. As well as Australia and New Zealand, Sherryl’s books have been published in USA, UK, Spain, Mexico and China.
As well as writing children’s fiction, Sherryl also writes adult crime fiction. Her novel, Trust Me, I’m Dead, was shortlisted for the CWA Debut Dagger Award, which led to a multi-book contract with Verve Books UK. Trust Me, I’m Dead was published in 2019, and longlisted for the CWA John Creasey New Blood Award and the NZ Ngaio Marsh Debut Novel Award. The second novel in the series, Dead and Gone, was published in 2020, and the third in 2022 (Mad, Bad and Dead).
Sherryl published the twisty, gritty and unputdownable crime thriller, the Woman, Missing, with HQ/HarperCollins in 2024 , which was shortlisted for the 2025 Davitt Sisters in Crime Award. A follow-up, All the Dead Girls, is scheduled for release in 2026.


Sherryl taught creative writing at Victoria University TAFE for 23 years and is now running her own workshops and runs a freelance editing business. She holds a MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults, and a PhD in Creative Writing.
